SPDX (https://spdx.org) is an open standard to properly mark software license in source code. It is gaining lot of popularity. By adopting it consistently, it is easy to extract metadata information related to large a codebase (it really becomes a matter of running "grep" over a single line). The motivation behind SPDX is well described in this video (alongside some stats related to the license of the linux kernel): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aCWjzgIV42M

Example: https://spdx.org/sites/cpstandard/files/pages/files/using_spdx_license_list_short_identifiers.pdf

IMO QE should adopt it for the next major release.
