the example given in the user guide is consistent with how
the code works (i.e. you specify -ndiag N^2 to use N^2 
processors in scalapck diagonalization). The paper you mention 
(not a memorable one, by the way) uses a different convention
(ndiag=N, not N^2) . Thank you for remarking this
