there shoud bem I guess, but this is going to be a very compiler- 
specific issue that you can only address studying the the compiler's  
users' guide. most compilers have "directives" (i.e. comment lines  
with a special syntax) that are only read and interpreted when specic  
options are passed to the compiler itself. it depends very much on the  
specific compiler you are using ...
