dear paolo,
to make the confusion about intel software products complete,
the strategy of allocating automatic arrays on the heap can be
avoided with recent intel compilers (10.0) using the -heap-arrays
flag. a choice of -heap-arrays 32 (everything above 32kb gets
allocated via malloc(3) instead of alloca(3)) seems to be a
reasonable choice.
