the default value of max_seconds in pw.x (i assume,
you're using that code) is 150 days according to
the documentation. you can always checkpoint and
restart a calculation (by creating an EXIT.prefix file).

so i guess, you are more likely to have a problem 
in your queueing system, which is completely independent
from the QE code.
