as explained in the users' guide, it would be too difficult to have 
binaries that work for more than a handful of machines. Anyway: 
AIX is one of the primary development and production platform for
this package, so things have to work on any IBM machine running 
AIX, with a working f90 compiler. If the compiled code fails in such 
a spectacular way, either the compiler environment and libraries
are badly screwed up, or there is some seriously inappropriate
option in your make.sys
