I don't think tinkering with the VCS is going to help all that much. I
should point out though that people who want to use git (I personally
quite like it and the slightly more hassle free way it merges changes) can
already do so through the git-svn interface. Though I'd recommend taking
quite a shallow copy when you make your initial clone as importing the
whole of the current SVN tree will take a *long* time.
