Postdoctoral Positions in Ab-initio simulation and code development
ICN2/ICMAB, Barcelona

The Theory and Simulation Groups at the Institut Català de Nanociència
i Nanotecnologia (ICN2) and at the Institut de Ciència de Materials de
Barcelona (ICMAB) both located at the Bellaterra campus, next to
Barcelona, are seeking to fill several postdoctoral positions. The
successful candidates will work with Enric Canadell, Alberto García,
Riccardo Rurali, and Massimiliano Stengel (at ICMAB), or Pablo Ordejón
and Miguel Pruneda (at ICN2), depending on the research line. The two
groups are strongly linked, and collaborations between the different
members and research lines are common.

The candidates are expected to join the efforts of the groups in any
of its activities: (i) development of theoretical methods, numerical
algorithms and simulation codes (the main activity in this aspect is
the development of the SIESTA package), and (ii) study of specific
problems in nanoscience, with applications in thermal transport,
functional oxides, surface science, flexoelectricity, low-dimensional
materials, or molecular electronics. At least two positions will be
involved in code developments, in connection with the activities of
the newly established materials-simulation Center of Excellence "MaX"
funded by the EU.

Highly qualified candidates with a PhD in physics, materials science,
chemistry or related disciplines are invited to apply. The ideal
candidate will have prior experience in one or more of the following
areas: first-principles methods, theory and simulation of condensed
matter, low dimensional systems and nanostructures, and programming
skills (preferably in Fortran/MPI). She/he should have good written
and oral communication skills in English, be a good team player,
creative, and have the ability to work independently. We offer
one-year contracts with possibility of renewal for a second year upon
mutual agreement, an outstanding environment for research and
continuous training, with strong interaction with local and
international experimental and theoretical groups.

To apply, please upload a one-page cover letter describing your
research interests, curriculum vitae, and contact information of two
references, at the website
